(Minneapolis, MN) -- From the shores of Lake Minnetonka in the heart of Minnesota to the -
turquoise waters surrounding the Ritz-Carlton in Naples (Florida), the Voices of Classic Rock have
rocked the docks and smoked the waters this 4th of July week.
The
week started on Tuesday the 4th of July at the Seventh
Annual "Born on the Fourth of July Party" at the private
residence of Rick Born, founder of Born Information
Systems in Minneapolis. (Check
out the photos) The setting was incredible with
the stage facing Lake Minnetonka and 2,000 invited guests
occupying the lawn down to the water's edge. And, in
the water another few thousand arrived and anchored
by boat to hear a line-up that included Chuck Negron
(former lead of Three Dog Night), The Bodines, and The
Voices.
The Voices roster on the show was as special as the setting, featuring Larry Hoppen (Orleans),
Dave Jenkins (Pablo Cruise), Spencer Davis (The Spencer Davis Group), Bobby Kimball (Toto), Joe Lynn
Turner (Rainbow and Deep Purple), and Jimi Jamison (Survivor).
After Chuck's opening set -- which got the crowd "going" with all those great Three Dog Night
hits -- Larry Hoppen took the stage to open the Voices set. There is nothing quite like the opening riff of
"Still The One" and the immediate recognition that it generates to get a crowd in the groove.
Dave kept the vibe going with the soulful blues of Pablo's biggest hits -- somehow extra
appropriate as the California surf sound met the sunset over Lake Minnetonka, with a few thousand friends
dancing and singing waterside.
Without a doubt, though, one of the show's highlights was Spencer's set; both his July 4th greeting
with a native British accent and the crowd's reaction to the opening bass line of "Gimme Some Lovin'."
Needless to say, from that point the Voices show went into overdrive with Bobby's Grammy-
winning songs, Joe's "live" version of Purple, and Jimi's close with all the hits from the "Vital Signs"
album. From "Hold the Line," to "Smoke on the Water," and "Eye of the Tiger," the show rocked. And as
the audience danced in front of the stage, the "boat people" expressed their appreciation with blasts from
their airhorns.
But, the week was only half over! With a travel day, a day-and-a-half of rest, and one more travel
day, it's nearly showtime in Naples... at the Ritz.
The Ritz show is one of those known in the business as a "corporate." More specifically, the
Voices will perform in concert, sponsored by their good friends at Lucent Technology, at a corporate
meeting for Dobson Cellular; their President's Club Gala Ball.
The band loves these type of shows, and this one is no exception. Needless to say, the Ritz-
Carlton is an exceptional location. If the pre-show hospitality is any indication, the Voices will also have a
great audience that will appreciate and motivate the band... leading to a memorable night for all. And, the
Band always is grateful for the opportunity to perform for Lucent and any of their respective clients.
The Dobson Concert will feature a Voices of Classic Rock line-up that includes Larry Hoppen,
Bobby Kimball, Joe Lynn Turner, and Jimi Jamison.
Stay tuned... and Rockforever.
