NASHVILLE, May 10, 2000 - Classic Rock music legend Spencer Davis, leaders of the Spencer Davis Group,
today joined the ranks of "artist-owners" committed to the new digital music label and channel
r o c k f o r e v e r . c o m . Upon signing with the Company, Davis joined its members Mickey Thomas, John Cafferty, Larry Hoppen, and Bobby Kimball in performing for the Grand Opening Celebration of Opey Mills in Nashville, Tennessee.
Davis, who founded the Spencer Davis Group in 1963 in Birmingham, England, is a former Professor at the University of German. Nicknamed "the professor" by his fellow "Voices," Spencer Davis led an R&B-influenced movement that featured driving vocals with strong guitar and bass rythms. "His is the music we all grew up listening to, it's what we played, he's the Professor," said songwriter and guitarist John Cafferty. "Every garage band of my generation opened or closed their show with'"Gimme Some Lovin,'"said Cafferty referring to a Spencer Davis classic.
In addition to writing and playing two top ten hits, the anthem "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man," Spencer Davis is also a profound judge of musical talent. It was he who persuaded Steve Winwood to join the Spencer Davis Group, which gave Winwood the foundation upon which he built a well-known career, too.
In 1970, after eight years of touring England and the Continent, Spencer Davis moved permanently to the United States. In addition to his Spencer Davis Group efforts, he has also toured and recorded solo albums with a variety of guests, including Dusty Springfield and Booker T. Jones. And, he has guest-starred on a variety of television programs, including the it series "Married With Children."
"We look forward to having Spencer record and perform with us," said Charlie Schmitt, Manager of r o c k f o r e v e r . c o m . "What could possibly be better, as John Cafferty said, than having all of our 'Voices' record hits like 'Gimme Some Lovin' with the man who originally wrote and recorded it. That's the consummate all-star jam!"
