"The Mad Hatter"
CHARLIE MORGAN With a tool of his trade |
Musicians often get saddled with nicknames,
and "Mad Hatter" fits Charlie Morgan . . . Not so much because he's prone to
actually wearing hats (see the picture below with Liberty DeVito, who wears a hat now
and then himself, not withstanding) but because, as a drummer/percussionist, he
is capable of performing naturally in many different environments in may different
styles. Not to mention that he IS a bona fide "Wild and Crazy" guy!!
A quick look through his discography, or a quick
read through his online resumé underscores his versatility . . . he's played for Kate Bush,
Duane Eddy, Clannad, Tracy Ullman, Elton John, Thin Lizzy, Maurice Jarre, Henry Mancini, Roger Whittaker,
Tina Turner, Trisha Yearwood... the list (and variety of styles) goes on and on.
Charlie moved recently from England to Orlando, Florida, which is
quickly becoming a mecca for some really great musicians. He ran into Larry Hoppen,
formerly with Orleans and currently a featured performer and music director of the
Voices of Classic Rock, at
Larry's regular Monday night gig at CityJazz at Universal Studios in Orlando. Without
"skipping a beat" Larry recruited Charlie for the VCR band!!
The consummate musician, Charlie came to his first gig prepared (see the photo below) --
he played his first show for five different singers (which equates to five diverse styles)
as though he's been playing with each for years. It can only get better from here on out!!!
Welcome Charlie!!
Dont miss Charlie's website www.manicdrums.com --
the name says it ALL!! Check out the "Tour Diaries" for some great photos!!
