In the wake of Gary U.S. Bonds' early '80s comeback, Rhino Records released this compilation of singles he made between 1968 and 1970 for producer Jerry Williams, Jr. Williams cast Bonds in the late '60s soul style of Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding, which meant his voice was often a harsh bark and the music had a Memphis-style funkiness, complete with horns.
