Gary U.S. Bonds' '80s comeback with "This Little Girl" and Dedication inspired
many repackagings of his '60s recordings in different countries. This 14-track French collection featured seven of
Bonds' eight single hits from 1960-62 (the omission is Seven Day Weekend,), plus flops like "Not Me" and
"Take Me Back To New Orleans," all with brief explanatory notes from producer Frank Guida. Most interesting is
Bonds' final '60s chart entry, "Copy Cat," awhich name-checks competitors like "Chubby" (Checker) and "Freddie"
(Cannon). But as this collection demonstrates, nobody copies Gary U.S. Bonds as closely as he does himself--most
of the songs are essentially remakes of his biggest hit, "Quarter To Three." |
