Biography
Larry Hoppen -- In the Spotlight

Larry Hoppen is a founding member and 'The Voice' of the band Orleans. Tens of millions of fans instantly recognize Larry's uplifting tenor from Orleans' timeless mega-hits "Still the One," "Dance with Me" and the self-penned "Love Takes Time," which recently joined the MillionAires Club at BMI. BMI has also certified "Still the One" and "Dance With Me" with a combined airplay of over 6 million plays!

From a musical family, Larry is equally at home on keyboards or guitar and is fluent on bass, melodica and trumpet. His mother started taking him on her society and club gigs when he was 10. He began Ithaca College at 16, then left at 18 to pursue his dream of success as a pro musician/entertainer rather than graduate with a Teaching degree.

Between 1969 and '71 his band Boffalongo made 2 LPs for United Artists which included the original recording of "Dancin' in the Moonlight", later a hit by King Harvest. Soon after Boffalongo disbanded, Larry got the call to come down to Woodstock, NY to form a group with Wells Kelly and John Hall which would become Orleans, now performing in its 30th year as a group!

During that time, Larry's vocal and instrumental talents have also been featured on tours and album releases by such diverse artists as Michael Franks, Graham Parker, Ricky Skaggs, Italian pop star Brando, Lulu, Felix Cavaliere and Livingston Taylor. The Oak Ridge Boys had a big hit with Larry's song "Juliet". More recently he contributed his unique style of Hammond B-3 on CDs by popular Alternative Rock groups Screaming Cheetah Wheelies and Blues Traveler.

After a dozen Orleans albums, Larry finally recorded his first "solo" album in 1996. Looking for the Light was cut with a band - The UnHerd - featuring world renowned musicians David Sancious, Tony Levin and Terry Silverlight, among others. All CD sales profits and 100% of Larry's publishing are donated to Sunshine for HIV Kids (www.songshine.com), which he and wife Patricia co-founded in 1993. The symbiotic combination of Larry's musical career and charitable efforts is something to which he has been deeply committed. In September 1997, Larry was awarded the Shining Star Award by local chapters of Hospice, Angel Food and ARCS for his work through Sunshine for HIV Kids. He considers this honor a humbling highlight of his life.

Another solo album - HandMade - was released in 1998. Current projects include a live album with his new band Hoppen & GO based in Orlando, Florida and lots of activity with Voices of Classic RockYou'll also catch him singing Still The One in movies like Primary Colors, TV shows like The West Wing and various ad campaigns.

Besides music and his family Larry enjoys baseball, antiques and classic cars. He now resides in Central Florida with his wife, twin daughters, dog and 3 cats.
