Pablo Cruise defined the laid-back California surf sound of the late '70's and early '80's . . . a sound that resulted in five Top Forty hits. Pablo's co-founder and voice Dave Jenkins has uniquely also enjoyed success on both the Pop and Country Charts. His is a special story. Pablo Cruise (Discography) was originally formed in 1973 in the San Francisco Bay Area by founders David Jenkins, Cory Lerios, Bud Cockrell, and Steve Price. In 1976, they realized commercial success with the Top 5 hit "Whatcha Gonna Do (When She Says Good-bye)" from the Double Platinum album A Place In The Sun From that point, many TV appearances on programs like American Bandstand, Dinah, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, Don Kirschner's Rock Concert brought world-wide recognition. On the next LP, Dave took over lead vocal responsibilities and delivered the classic blue-eyed soul hits, "Love Will Find A Way" (Top Ten), "Don't Wanna Live Without It" (Top 20), and "I Go To Rio" (Top 40). That album, Worlds Away, also went double platinum in the U.S. and Canada. The next two LP's produced more radio activity with Dave singing "I Want You Tonight" and then the classic "Cool Love" (Top 20) from the sixth album Reflector. Pablo still receives regular national air-play on it's popular hit singles.
In 1986, Dave joined with Doobie Brothers pals Keith Knudsen and John McFee and Creedence Clearwater bassist Stu Cook in the hard driving country rock band Southern Pacific. On their 1987-88 release Zuma, Dave sang two top 10 country hits, "Midnight Highway" (Number 7) and "Honey I Dare You" (Number 3), which he co-wrote. The band toured for two solid years with many of today's top country acts. In 1994, Dave and Hawaiian partner, Kapono Beamer, released the popular and critically acclaimed Cruisin On Hawaiian Time which still enjoys air-play and sales in Hawaii and elsewhere. Today Dave still performs with Pablo Cruise when not surfing or touring with the Voices of Classic Rock
