Sass Jordan was born in Birmingham, England, to a French Professor father and a British Actress/Ballet Dancer mom. The family emigrated to Montreal,Canada, when Sass was three years old. Her interest in music and words manifested very early, and at the age of nine, she and her brother discovered that they could change the dial on the radio - EUREKA!!! A brand new world emerged out of the cocoon of classical music prevalent throughout her formative years. Her very first band, "Sweet Thunder", was composed of a motley crew of high school dropouts. Sass honed her singing skills through singing covers of Eagles, CSNY, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, America etc., and by singing along with her favorite records. "My favorite singers, the ones I most wanted to be like, were mainly black R & B singers like Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan (god, I wanted to BE her!) Tina Turner, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield etc. I also loved the white male singers like Steve Perry,Lou Gramm, Steven Tyler, Robin Zander, Paul Rodgers, Robert Palmer and the like. You have to remember that my influences are enormously diverse, and that this just represents a small part of them."
After the dissolution of Sweet Thunder, an old friend from high school called and said " We are starting a band and we need a bass player and our first gig is in 3 weeks - are you up for it?" That band morphed into a new wave outfit called "The Pin Ups", after the famed Bowie album. The Pin Ups became very popular around the Montreal area, where they caught the eye of legendary local promotor, Donald K. Donald. He signed Sass to her first record deal, and in 1989 released her debut c.d. Tell Somebody. The c.d and subsequent videos catapulted her into "overnight success" status in Canada, and garnered a variety of awards for it, including the Canadian Juno (the equivelant of the US Grammy award). The sudden success was overwhelming prompting Sass to move to Los Angeles where she had signed with a manager. She was eager to start branching out which led to her signing a deal with Impact/MCA in the U.S., on which she released two more c.d.'s, 1992's multi platinum selling Racine and 1994's cult classic Rats. Throughout these years, Sass collaborated, toured, auditioned, wrote, sang (and slept with...JOKE!!!!) numerous songwriters, bands and musicians including Steve Miller, Aerosmith, George Clinton, Cheap Trick, Chuck Berry, Arc Angels, Steve Perry, Colin James, Jeff Healey, Van Halen, Tool, Jude Cole, Cry of Love, Slayer, Alice in Chains - how are your feet doing after all these names just got dropped on them ? She is also notorious for hiring band members who go on to having really high profile careers, among them Pierre Barbeau and Yves Frulla who went on to work with Celine Dion, and Nick Lashley and Taylor Hawkins who worked with Alanis Morrisette on her breakthrough multi platinum tour and videos. Taylor is now a member of the Foo Fighters. In 1997, Sass returned to Canada due to family commitments, got married, had a child, and made Present, her fourth c.d.. followed in 2000 by Sas Jordon's Hot Gossip. Sass is currently involved in a variety of different projects including a new television series that she is developing a television series, as well as acting, singing, writing, and working with the "Voices of Classic Rock". She is full of enthusiasm and optimism for the future of music and entertainment, and her motto is "We are all One." |
