NOTE: Eddie Money and Southside Johnnie joined the Voices of Classic Roc for a special appearance at the Players Championship Party/Concert at the Marriott Hotel, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL in March 1999. This event was cybercast (audio and video) over the internet and was chronicled by a photographer. It was a GREAT party!!

Eddie Money is one of the most popular rock and roll artists of the past two decades. Songs like Two Tickets To Paradise, Baby Hold On, Take Me Home Tonight, Shakin, and Think I'm In Love reach across generations to build Money a faithful fanbase that continues to flock to his shows, and buy his records.

Edward Mahoney (AKA Eddie Money) was born in New York City. His father was a policeman on the NYPD. Money joined New York's finest and attended the NYPD police academy. During this period, he assembled a Long Island group called "The Grapes of Wrath" and performed nightly in the New York area. Because of his success as a musician, he was faced with the decision between the police department and a career as a professional entertainer. The choice was made, and in 1968 he moved to Berkeley, Calif. where he proceeded to perform in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Rock impresario Bill Graham discovered Money at one of Graham's legendary San Francisco Sound of the Cities talent shows. Graham managed Money's career until his death in 1991. During that time, Money had over 10 Top-40 hit singles and became one of the most successful touring acts of the time.

Here are a few of his songs that have appeared in the Billboard top 40 and Billboard top 100 in the last 20 years.

"Losing Bill was like losing a father," Money said. "I still haven't quite gotten over it, but he would want me to rock on."

The first recording contract negotiated by Graham with CBS/Columbia resulted in the album Eddie Money, produced by Bruce Botnic. It sold over a million copies, earned a platinum disc, and spent almost a year on the charts. The album contained the hit song, Baby Hold On, which reached #11 in the United States. In 1978 Money began touring as an opening act in the United States for the Rolling Stones, The Who, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, The Police, Heart, ZZ Top, Santana, Journey, Ted Nugent and Cheap Trick, while also headlining successfully.

Money recently celebrated his 20th year as a recording artist with a new album and home video for CMC International Records. The album entitled Shakin' With The Money Man features new live versions of his previously released hits, as well as four new studio tracks. The corresponding video includes brilliant live performances with a dozen chart-breaking hits.

Money considers Shakin' With The Money Man, "...the best record I've ever made . . . I couldn't be more in love with my life and my music today, and this album reflects that to a 'T'..." On the first single, If We Ever Get Out Of This Place, co-written with Paul Stanley of Kiss, Money's maturity is evident in his lyrics about the plight of many middle-class Americans in the 90's.

"I can relate to middle-class America with the taxes and bills -- I mean, how many rock stars do you know who shop with double coupons?" Money asks.

On a more joyful note, Everybody Loves Christmas is destined to be a holiday hit with it's old-fashioned rock and roll persona. For this track, Money reunites with the legendary Ronnie Spector on vocals. It's already a big hit at Money's house, where his kids enjoy hearing their names on the record. Somethin' To Believe In is a song about the glass being half full instead of half empty.

"In such a down world today," Money said, "everyone needs a little optimism; something to believe in. Actually this song is the most autobiographical cut I've ever written. My heart goes out to all the homeless people across the country."

Shakin' With The Money Man was recorded in July 1997 at a sold-out concert in Southern California. These new versions of Money's hits show how great rock songs about everyday life can hold up through the years.

"A great rock song is a great rock song forever," Money said.

His well-known rock and roll extravagances have long since been traded in for a spiritual, family-oriented lifestyle. Money resides in Southern California with his wife Laurie and their 5 children. He loves to mountain bike with the kids, work out in the family gym, and surf as much as possible.
