Dickey Betts took a slightly poppier approach on his second Great Southern album, perhaps in an attempt to distinguish the band's sound from that of The Allman Brothers Band. The title track was even a string-filled ballad. But the result was more updated Western swing than contemporary pop-rock, and the album was commercially unsuccessful. Betts then broke up Great Southern and took bandmates Dan Toler and David Goldflies with him into a reunion of The Allmans. ? William Ruhlmann |
