The UNT Jazz Trumpet Workshop provides trumpeters of all levels
(minimum age - 14) with a comprehensive and intensive curriculum devoted
to jazz trumpet playing. Working in an intimate setting with master jazz
trumpeters, students will study a wide variety of topics
including:
Developing the Upper Register Equipment Embouchure Development and
Maintenance History of Jazz Trumpet Section and Lead Playing Jazz
Improvisation and Combos Sight Reading and Technical Development Basic
Jazz Style.
The workshop begins with registration at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 19,
followed by a brief placement audition at 3 p.m. Faculty concerts
will be presented each evening Monday June 19 through Friday June
23.
At 1 p.m.on Saturday, June 24, all participants will perform in a
public concert in the UNT Recital Hall (parents are encouraged to
attend). The performance will conclude no later than 5 PM.
UNT Jazz Trumpet Workshop Faculty:
- Bobby Shew -- internationally acclaimed recording artist and jazz educator.
- Mike Steinel -- jazz trumpet with the Chicago Jazz Quintet and UNT faculty member.
- Jay Saunders -- lead trumpet with Stan Kenton and UNT faculty member.
- Rodney Booth -- freelance trumpeter and educator in the DFW area
