The North Texas Vocal Jazz Workshop is among the foremost summer workshops of its kind. For one intense week, students, professionals and non-professionals encounter virtually every aspect of vocal jazz and the vocal jazz ensemble, including vocal jazz arranging. (Separate track!) In addition to classes and solo coaching sessions, two daily rehearsals work toward a public performance of four vocal jazz ensembles at the end of the week.

Workshop faculty includes:

  • Paris Rutherford , director of UNT Jazz Singers, clinician and published vocal jazz arranger.
  • Michele Weir (University of California, noted clinician and arranger)
  • Rosana Calderon (UNT vocal jazz, professional recording artist)
  • David Joyner (UNT jazz history-repertoire, active singer/arranger)
  • Catherine Jensen-Hole (Univ of Mass. at Amherst, vocal jazz)
  • Sue Cruse (Texas A&M Kingsville, IAJE-Texas vocal jazz resource)
  • Gary Eckert (active composer/singer, Dallas commercial scene)
  • Bruce Wermuth (composer/singer/arranger, Dallas jingles/shows)
