Steve Gadd in the studio OK . . . you're well on your way to mastering the RUDIMENTS on the snare drum. Now, take that technique and apply it to the drumset!! Perhaps one of the most famous (and obvious) uses of a rudiment (the 'lowly' five stroke roll) on the drumset is the opening snare drum solo on the Paul Simon recording of "Fifty Ways to Leave Your Lover". Session giant Steve Gadd (with lots of drum corp experience as a Kid) was the drummer on the recording date and the cadence was his idea!!
