1955 Pontiac Wagon -- My First Car

  • The car would run 100+ mph for HOURS!
  • Bob Schulman remembers our trips back and forth to North Texas fondly --the "back" way on Highway 281
  • Sharon Weigel, flautist from MacArthur HS, who was also a frequent passenger probably doesn't...
  • Finally killed the wagon when the breaks had a melt-down
  • Traded it in on a 1960 Pontiac Catalina convertible!!
1960 Pontiac Convertible
  • This car was SO MUCH FUM to drive!!!
  • Installed factory tri-power manifold and carbs on it!
  • Eventually had serious transmission problems
  • Broke my heart but I junked it in Colorado Springs while in the NORAD Band

  • Bought a 1958 Oldmobile (chrome for days) station wagon when Sharon and I got married (used more oil than gas!!) and a VW Squareback
1962 Ford Econoline Van
  • I was about to be discharged and needed a vehicle to "haul my drums"
  • One of the motor pool guys had a "hippy" van and a rebuilt Ford 289 V8 (slide 6)... was I interested in paying for the "surgery" to mate the two???
  • This was one UGLY truck (slide 5)... I didn't dare bring it onto Ft. Meade until I primered it (slide 7)... that's my "in town" bomb in the foreground... a 1958 Chevrolet Impala coupe... I sold it for $15.00 when I was discharged... there is one on EBay for $15,000 today!!
  • I drove the Econoline to Texas (straight thru) in prep for moving to Denton when discharged... it was fast and sounded GREAT!!
  • Like the $129.00 red paint job???? (slide 8)
  • I drove it every day from Dallas to Denton and back... 90 mi round trip...
  • I sold it when we moved to Chicago...
1976 Dodge Van
  • This Dodge van (slide 9) was a dream... full power, AC, spoiler, wide wheels and tires, cruise, it was a CRUISER
  • Drove it from one end of the US (Great Gorge, NJ) to the other (Las Vegas and LA) working for Lola Falana.
  • Interior was insulated and paneled... there was NO road noise... good sound system...
  • Sold it when I bought my house in North Hollywood...
1966 Ford Bronco
  • This car was the MOST fun to drive!!! (slide 10)
  • Massaged Ford 289 V8 (HiPo Heads), automatic trans conversion, custom dash full of Stewart Warner gauges
  • Drove it back and forth to Vegas (K-Bar-S Bronco) with the top down in the winter!!
1986 Jeep CJ 7
  • We bought this Jeep during the run of La Cage Aux Folles (slide 12 - with Ann's kids - Geoff and Liz))
  • Ann and I drove this Jeep on the "A Chorus Line" Tour criss-crossing the US
  • It was equipped with full roll-bar cage, after-market bumpers, side bars, wheels, etc... all in black!!
  • The Jeep had a transmission problem that could NOT be fixed by ANYONE!!
  • We sold it in preparation for the move to NYC...
1986 Ford Bronco
  • This car was a disaster!!!(slide 13)
  • After installing new suspension, wheels, tires it was totaled when hit by Corvette.
1994 Ford Taurus
  • This car is now gone... bummer!!!
  • Bought it sight unseen on EBay and I'm paying for it... new problem every day... and I still LOVE driving it!!
  • It is so fast and nimble... 24 valve double over-head cam Yanaha built engine... a real screamer!!
